Gadget lovers with furry friends might be wise to consider more than just the aesthetics of their digital living spaces when positioning their favourite bits of kit. Fresh findings reveal that laptop computers and iPods, sometimes on charge, now pose more of a threat to pets than traditional dangers, like washing machines and microwaves. Apple’s device is the likeliest gadget to cause injury to a cat; rabbits are particularly at risk from Sony PlayStations, while guinea pigs are most at peril from DVD players. Plasma TVs also rank high up the list of pet threats, according to a reported survey by Petplan, typically because dogs jump at the screen when one of their cousins appears. Games consoles ranking fifth, seventh and eighth in the league table of gizmos likeliest to injure pets suggests an ensuing accident sees the machine fall upon the overexcited dog. But humans aren’t to blame: according to the survey, seen by the Daily Telegraph, only one third of owners admit responsibility for their gadgets harming their pets. Firming up their denials, animal experts say some pets, particularly dogs, are naturally inquisitive, explaining why eating something they shouldn’t was pets’ biggest peril.
