Techie's family use PC as his urn
A man who lived his life on computers got the ultimate resting place - having his remains stored inside a retro PC, complete with an etched on epitaph and post-it note tributes.
In a memorial befitting to his lifestyle, well-wishers to 'Alan' were invited to pen him messages on the small yellow sticky papers and attach them to his workstation-cum-casket.
Those who wanted their 'good-bye' to be private slipped their note into the floppy slot of the white-grey SPARCstation, which bears his name and dates of birth and death.
It is also carries the words "Beam me up Scotty, I'm done here" – a oft-heard quote of Alan's from Start Trek that he uttered before he lost his fight to a smoking-related illness last month.
Alan's brother, who spoke to Slashdot of the memorial following a cremation service, said that, having removed the hard drive, there had been only one snag with the urn alternative.
He told the site that Alan's daughters like the look of it so much that "they aren't now sure if they want to bury him," not caring that the PC and design were phased out two decades ago.
