Limited companies who met the January 31st deadline for their tax bills may see them returned unpaid if their payslips contained HMRC's old bank account details. Since April of last year, tax payments to Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs have been gradually redirected to new, non-Bank of England accounts. But with effect from January 2010, payments made to any of HMRC’s Bank of England accounts may be returned unpaid, say advisers at the MHH Partnership. This could have a knock-on effect, the firm warned, resulting in late payments to HMRC and possibly penalties for late filing, additional to any interest. Although HMRC has updated most of its payslips, firms with those showing a BoE account number were advised to contact the office that sent them for a replacement.
