Revenue beat the PCG in IR35 case

The Professional Contractors Group (PCG) is seeking legal advice, following the news that Bill Hood of Usetech Limited had lost his recent IR35 case against the Inland Revenue.

“This result is extremely disappointing,” said PCG’s legal director, Dr Simon Juden, “and we are considering an appeal, pending clarification about certain issues which were not clear from the judgment.”

Bill Hood started his business as a self-employed oil rig designer in 1996, abandoning it last year after suffering a severe heart attack. The hearing of his case by the Special Commissioners took place in the living room of his Gateshead home, rather than in a courtroom.

Mr Hood was represented we believe by Accountax who have taken all PCG cases to court thus far, and represents their first defeat at the Commissioners.
