when i left them because i did not trust them they gave me a massive made up invoice and basically took all the money that they said was in a reserve account fotr hmrc

Just received letter from hmrc regarding unpaid tax of £3600.00. Rang hmrc, and according to them igloo/new wave accounting are doing everything wrong. Expenses shouldn't be claimed ie travel to and from work, washing of work gear etc, only the purchase of specialised work gear can be claimed. They can also not act as an MSC (managed service company). This peiece of legislation has been in effect since 2010 and igloo/new wave knew about this. Basically anyone with igloo or any other company like igloo need to be aware. Apparently there are 1300-2500 drivers affected by this so this is just a heads up

The MSC legislation came into being in 2007

Just had a wee rummage about some other fora and this would appear to be correct. MSC legislation has been ignored and HMRC have got wind. Any driver registered at HMRC as a client of Igloo can expect a letter from HMRC.

There are a couple of other issues that seem to be at play but I'm not keen to talk about unsubstantiated matters on an open forum.

I'm not sure how much good you'll do posting on here though. Igloo seems to be fully involved with contract drivers.

I have heard that their other companies think and newwave are both under investigation with hmrc after looking on some other forums it seems a lot of drivers have been ripped off by these cowboys.
They are operating as a managed service provider so all the drivers that are registered with them get huge tax bills of hmrc as though they were just on paye

I predict that we will see MSC's popping up all over the place post April next year - if 1500 people were caught out in this way it's obvious that the original legislation has all but been forgotten

This could be an unintended consequence of the T&S relief withdrawal. I can see many umbrella contractors misunderstanding the legislation and jumping into limited company contracting and being so poor at management that quasi-MSC providers will pop up.
