    On the registration page...

By clicking this button, you submit your information to the webinar organizer, who will use it to communicate with you regarding this event and their other services.
No opt out button. Is this even allowed nowadays?

Sign up for spam? Not a chance.

Nope, consent has to be granular and freely given, not contingent on agreeing to other conditions.

Techniocally it's not an opt out button they should provide but 2 opt in's. One for comms in connection wth the event and one for "other services" that should clearly describe what that actually means.

      Article 7, Para. 2.

Consent should be given by a clear affirmative act establishing a freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her, such as by a written statement, including by electronic means, or an oral statement. 2This could include ticking a box when visiting an internet website, choosing technical settings for information society services or another statement or conduct which clearly indicates in this context the data subject’s acceptance of the proposed processing of his or her personal data. 3Silence, pre-ticked boxes or inactivity should not therefore constitute consent. 4Consent should cover all processing activities carried out for the same purpose or purposes. 5When the processing has multiple purposes, consent should be given for all of them. 6If the data subject’s consent is to be given following a request by electronic means, the request must be clear, concise and not unnecessarily disruptive to the use of the service for which it is provided.

A bit of a talking to and some "advice and guidance" from the ICO. If enough people complain.

If they then do something naughty with the data collected that violates consent etc. then it's up to 4% of Global Turnover in fines.

Hmm. I liked my penalty better.

At least Admin knows what webinar to run next with at least one mandatory attendee.

In fairness to Orange Genie, their website is set up nicely and prompts you to change privacy settings when you hit the front page. The webinar organiser appears to be GoToWebinar and it's their approach that is the problem.

The Webinar is informative and for contractors benefit, no selling, scouts honour! We provide this every year to the contractor community and its always well received.

Well spotted though, we've been onto gotomy webinar and reviewed the opt-in option and updated the message, thanks DaveB.
