Hi,
I am moving to Canada next month with a permanent residence visa. As I don't currently have a job over there, my current employer wished to keep me on as a contractor for 3-6 months while I get settled and find a job out there. It works out great for both parties.
The first thing I am trying to figure out is how my contractor insurance would work. I work in the IT field so I would probably need some. I am not sure though where I should be looking for insurance though as I will be living in a different country but working for a UK company. Do I need to get insurance here or in Canada before I go? I have looked at umbrella companies but they have the same problem where they will only do it for the same country.
The second issue I have (not sure if anyone knows anything about tax law), but has anyone had any experience with tax when working in a different country? I know UK and Canada have a double taxation law but is this dependant on where you are living or the country of the employer or which bank account your money is going into? I have tried calling the HMRC, booked 2 different call backs for this issue and got 0 so far. So any advice here would be much appreciated.
I really really need some advice here as I have been looking everywhere and really can't find any answers to my questions. If anyone can give me any advice or point me in the right direction I would be incredibly grateful. The one I am really worried about and can't seem to figure out is the indemnity insurance so any clarity there would be fantastic.
Thanks,
Chris
