    Working in the EU

    Hi,

I'm currently contracting in the UK, through my own LTD company, but I'm thinking of getting a contract (12 months) in the EU (Brussels) and had a few questions:

    1) What are the tax implications, in the EU & UK?
    2) How do I pay myself from EU > GBP?
    3) How / where do I get a EU bank account?
    4) If I rent somewhere, can I claim this as expenses?
    5) If I do rent somewhere, are there any rules / regulations I need to be aware of i.e insurance etc?
    6) I'd probably fly back home every other weekend, I presume I can claim that as travelling expenses?

Anything else I need to consider?

You pay tax as required for a self-employed person in the country you are working in not the UK.

Everything else derives back from that first point but it may or may not make it sensible to work abroad.

There are exceptions if you work for NATO. In that case, you can work via your UK Ltd Co or anther EU Ltd Co

I found this sticky shortly after posting, which has been a great help.

Turn around, walk away and then run like mad!

                  Seriously, it's not worth it.
