Faulty Laptop - Consumer Goods Act 2015

    Hi,

The battery in my laptop burst open and popped the case open and the laptop stopped working. It’s two or three years old, and I bought it in the UK,

Since this is an internal thing in the laptop I presume it’s faulty manufacture rather than anything I could have caused.

Does the consumer goods cover this and how would I go about persuading the company to repair or replace the laptop?

    Huge.

    Have you contacted the manufacturer?

Your first port of call is the vendor, not the manufacturer. Refer to the Act.

Check whether the laptop that you have purchased is subject to similar issues.
I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).

It does but you have to prove it. Take it back to the shop first explain the problem and see if they repair it. If not you can get an expert to verify that it is indeed a faulty laptop, though I would have thought that a burst battery is proof enough.
        I'm alright Jack

Yeah. I was thinking of a direct purchase, I've never bought my laptop's via a reseller.

Was this a business purchase? If it was it won’t be covered by consumer rights law.
