Contracting in different role post MVL

Currently finishing off an MVL, retiring from Project Management. Outside IR35 roles are dead for a 'two-a-penny' PM like me.

I understand I cannot work in same or similar field using a Ltd Company again for two years. However, what if I decided to open a new Ltd Company and work in a different field - what does 'similar' field d mean.....??

would I be okay working as a photographer?
would I be okay working as a 'trainer' - teaching business skills, or management skills?

Thoughts from those who have taken the same path would be welcomed.

I think you've got to apply some common sense here. If you were IT then starting again as a photographer is hardly similar, nor is training.

If you are an IT project Manager and you want to start as an IT test manager then you are going to be on very rocky ground. We are IT consultants at the end of the day. You would be carrying on consulting in IT.

I know there isn't a definitive list but it's not hard to think about whatever you come up with and apply some logical thinking.

Yes.

Probably not if you were an IT project manager and you are now proposing to train IT project managers; risky, at least.

This is pretty obvious, though, as NLUK indicates. Unless it is completely unrelated, you are taking a (probably significant but unknown) risk.

Before you even get to the stage you are considering, you need to advise us of the reason you closed down your company and went through an MVL?

Is it because your current way of working is no longer an option, or because you thought it would be better to liquidate now before potential removal of ER (or something along those lines)?

Closing using MVL whilst it is still an option.

Live in rural Lincolnshire - always have to live away and pay significant expenses. Not working inside IR35 and paying them out of taxable income. So benched myself. Might come back if things change, might do something else. Or i might just stay at home and watch porn.
