    Furlough and expenses

Could not find any guidance on this subject.

Can you still claim valid expenses while being on furlough(I normally pay with my personal card and then claim from the company at some point)?

    E.g.

    - Weekly £6 working from home - I assume not
    - new monitor etc?
    - Microsoft exams?
    - Azure subscription?
    - Xmas party?

            - Weekly £6 working from home - No, as you aren't working
            - new monitor - yep, it's a company expense and you would need it if working.
            - Microsoft exams - yep, training is allowed
            - Azure subscription - yes, it's a company expense
            - Xmas party - yes, it's a company expense

But will it be not taxable ?

Here - Check which expenses are taxable if your employee works from home due to coronavirus (COVID-19) - GOV.UK

              it says

              "Who is not affected
Furloughed workers who are eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme."

and then lists equipment and £6 wfh below.

I read it as you can't claim it tax-free while on furlough.

On the other hand Azure subscription and Xmas party seem to be company related expenses, exams are probably fine too ..

I think what they are trying to get at is that you cannot do work while you are on furlough. You can carry out your directors responsibilities though.

You just need to be clear in your head what is work and what is directors stuff.

If you don't need to buy it or claim it just now then don't just to be safe. Just do the £6pw in a lump sum later on in your accounting year for example.

Not if you are on Self Assessment, the claim needs to go on that next year
