Well firstly I didn't need one when I signed up with them. I still don't need or want one as I'm happy with excel but with mtd I will have to set one up (from what I've read).

Also, there not leaving me hanging there setup with sage (and have other clients who use quick ooks and xero also from preference) so happy for me to go with them but are also happy for me to choose my own. Hence me asking on this forum for advice on which one to go for.

Once you've used Freeagent you'll never go back to a spreadsheet. 1000's of ex SJD bods will agree

Anyone got any feedback on Crunch? I seem to remember so not so glowing posts about them in the past? Everything still OK over there with satisfied forumites still?

Orange Genie moving away from Freeagent

Anyone on here uses Orange Genie?
They recently stopped using Freeagent and instead are offering some bespoke solution which is incomplete and feels like a school project software built by students. It seems like their migration also did not go to plan and they are still reconciling and updating records. My accounts are in a bit of a mess.

I am fairly new to contracting but have been very happy with Orange Genie and using Freeagent was really easy and made me feel in control.

I will give them another month to see if they can sort out all the issues but also starting to think about finding another accountant.

How easy is it to change accountants? I am presuming it will just be a matter of asking Orange Genie to pass my records to the new accountants?

          Thanks.

Correct and in the main this works quite well but we've had a couple of threads where accountants have been less than helpful passing information over. It certainly happened to me. That said mine was a one man band with no portal or anything. I'd expect Orange to be much better than that though.

Will they not allow Freeagent at all? SJD back in the day had their spreadsheet by default but would work with people using FA. I'm guessing you had to buy your own licence though but they'd still work with it. Orange won't help you if you have your on FA instance? I can't imagine not using FA now to be fair so if my outfit so no more FA (unless their move was to an emerging competitor to FA that's likely to be better) then I'd be leaving as well.

              What NLUK said.

I wouldn't dare try to move all our clients away from FreeAgent, as I imagine on the whole their loyalty to FreeAgent would be stronger than their loyalty to us! I wonder if Orange Genie will find the same thing...

Are they insisting you move your bookkeeping to their in house option? Or just giving you a choice?

Fear not we are sticking with FreeAgent!

Yes, we tried something different but sadly what we bought into has not been delivered (thank you clients for the feedback). @ Orange Genie we strive to enhance our contractors experience, we will continue launching the new benefits package, that part is a hit but happy to back track on the accounting software rollout.

Business as normal at Orange Genie and still FreeAgent experts!

                  Wakefield

Hi, sorry if this is already addressed in the thread (I tried to check but there are a lot of pages here), does anyone have recommendations for an accountant in Wakefield?
                  Thanks

Why Wakefield? The general consensus is to go for a specialist that offers FA. You'll not need to see your accountant face to face. I haven't in 10 years.

That said it would fun to bump in to your accountant in Roof Top Gardens on a Saturday night

That's it, chat about self assessments over a Red Stripe!

I agree about the software, however after recent shenanigans with current accountant, I like the idea of being able to see them face to face!

On the software side, I ended up spending a lot (a lot) of time a few years back entering everything into Xero, so got quite invested with it, so ideally would want someone who can work with that.
