Accountant recommendation threads inc local requests

Updated 14 May 2019 - Quick re-hash again due to some changes. Dynamo have done a U-turn due to various reasons so have gone from the list. Added Clarity due to them being very active on the forum and are very well known to us and have some forum users as customers. Dolan moved up to the active group with positive reviews from users on here as well. Separated Crunch and Intouch out as they've been on the list forever but some noise recently.

Update 9th Oct 2017 - Bit of re-hash of the regular contributors. Added Dolan Accountancy who are new to the game. Last mention of SJD and NW as they appear to have gone completely down hill so will remove them next update.

Updated 23 Nov 2016 - Had some feedback from active posters on a few accountants I had in the advice section. They have now signed up and service is as it says on the tin so moved to 'have been recommended list'. Heard nothing about NW and SJD feedback hasn't been that great recently so sadly moved them down.

Updated 23 June 2016 - This got out of date so am doing a bit of rehash. I've added any new ones, taken off some that seem to have disappeared and given a nod to some of the Accountants that are actively giving good advice on the forums but don't seem to have been recommended by posters.

    -------
As we get asked this so much I have compiled a list of accountant recommendation threads including requests for local services. To save time I have named accountants that have been recommended at least 3 times in these threads by more senior posters on the forums.

The general consensus of the threads I have read below are to go with the contractor specialist ones rather than a local bod. Knowing our business is better than face to face it seems. Some people are recommending a local guy so the choice is yours. I have done both and the specialist one wins hands down. I am with Gorilla Accounting now, previously with SJD just to be clear. They are in no particular order.

    Maslins
    BI Accountancy
    Dolan Accountancy
    Gorilla Accounting
    Clarity Accounting

The following two have been long termers in the list but a bit of noise about the recently.

    InTouch Accounting
    Crunch Accounting

Regular contributors to our forum worth a look. I've no evidence of happy customers on the forum yet though. (in no particular order)

    Broome Affinity
    Contratax Ltd
    Whitefield Tax
    My Accountant Friend

I had SJD and NW as a possibility but there appears to be an increasing number of complaints about them so taking them off the recommended list

The list below is very out of date and we don't seem to have had any recommendations of local guys in geographical locations. I'll leave them here for now but please not the dates on the posts

    To add to your list:

    WhitefieldTax
    Capital City
    Boox post on here too

Edit: if it's an umbrella you're after, there's Contractor Umbrella. Lisa is a regular poster here.

And personally I would steer clear of any company offering you returns of 80%+...

Add crunch to the list although that's more for the software than their advice which I don't personally use. Others however do and seem to like them.

            I'll make this a sticky.

I'd definately recommend Crunch over SJD any day of the week. And the software is superb compared to the 90's spreadsheet of SJD.

I would only look at accountants who use FreeAgent. I'll never go back to a spreadsheet again.

Just for fairness I have added Crunch to the list as they have been recommended by posters but SJD do support clients using Clearbooks or Freeagent Central so you are not tied to the spreadsheet. I am sure other accountants take a similar stance.

                    +1

using FreeAgent is the way forward compared to the spreadsheet
