Alex Salmond’s claims an independent Scotland would start life in the EU have appeared to suffer a major blow after the European Commission’s new president said no new states would be admitted for the next five years.
Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Tory leader, said: “Jean Claude Junker is only confirming what we already know – that an independent Scotland would have to join the same queue as everybody else for membership of the EU.
From what I can see they will have to get in line behind Albania and Kosovo. They could always team up with Iceland
