Hot water. Cheaper to heat via gas I believe. Also the immersion doesn't have a timer on it.

That's not a ratcheting noise. That's a constant clicking noise. A ratcheting noise sounds like something being tightened by a ratchet.

It's the noise the ratchet screwdriver makes when you turn it against the resistance.
