migrants tax allowance to be cut?

Osborne's plan to make 250,000 migrant workers pay tax - Telegraph

Up to a quarter of a million European migrants will pay tax in Britain for the first time, under plans being prepared by George Osborne, the Telegraph can reveal.
Temporary workers from the European Union will be stripped of the right to use the £10,000 tax-free personal allowance under Treasury proposals.
It means that up to 250,000 labourers, agricultural workers, cleaners and bar staff from the EU working in Britain who currently earn less than £10,000 will pay tax on their earnings for the first time.
It means that, in effect, they will earn 20 per cent less than their UK counterparts who will be able to keep all of their earnings below the personal allowance.
a good idea or a mess?

The government won't be allowed to discriminate under European rules so we will end up paying the tax back plus compensation to the migrants

They are trying to win votes.

Unfortunately for them the UK population isn't that stupid and know it will end up in the European Courts - plus we would like our fruit, vegetables and flowers picked not left to rot in the fields.

Yeah but they worked out that they wouldn't win the last election.

Will this apply to UK citizens returning from overseas? What about Irish citizens?

So presumably the national minimum wage isn't in place to protect the vulnerable from being 'exploited'? As otherwise the implication is that gov is perfectly happy to see foreigners 'exploited' on british soil.

In fact this is even worse - it's the government doing the 'exploitation' to raise funds.

                    Can anyone say 'hypocrite'?
