Does anyone remember the Conservative Party?

    In days of old...

And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

There hasn't been a Tory in office since Thatcher so it's been a while
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Major was a Tory, but Thatcher wasn't.

I agree. Mrs Thatcher was a crisis leader; Major was the best PM Britain had in a long, long time and a genuine conservative; a shame he was stabbed in the back by his party.

Yes; the pound floated freely afterwards and the economy recovered from recession.

Thatcher peeed off the Scots so much that they want to leave the UK and english so called patriotic Tories say "let em go" yet claim her victory was saving Britain the sick man of europe.

You do not save the patient by killing it. Soon her failure will be complete even by her own standards!

Never heard so much rubbish in my entire life. Have you handed over your account to Suity?

Maggie, God rest her soul, cut red tape and freed business up. Major started more red tape and collected tax by "extracting the most feathers with minimal hiss". Under Thatcher this country had best pension savings in Europe - Major introduced the ACT changes that stuffed pensions.

All Blair/Brown ever did was extend the nonsens that Major started.

Please hand your account over to someone with an ounce of common sense.

Hee hee: How Margaret Thatcher Made Britain a Soviet State | Alexandre Afonso (mind you, I don't think that all of that is down to Thatcher)

Britain in 1979 had a double-digit inflation rate, a top income tax rate of 83% and rising unemployment. Public expenditures accounted for 42.5% of GDP. There were price, dividend, currency and wage controls, although the last of these were flouted by trade unions on whose support the Labour government depended.
The government accounted for about 30% of the work force. The state controlled most major industries: British Aerospace, British Airways, British Telecom, British Steel, British Leyland, the British National Oil Corporation, Associated British Ports, Cable and Wireless, Rolls Royce. What was left of a private economy was smothered in red tape.
When we hear leaders talk about raising taxes or smothering businesses with duplicative and ineffectual regulations, it would be wise to remember Thatcher’s words. If we want more growth, we need more free enterprise.
Something that Blair, Cameron, et al should take note of...

                    I liked this though:

ICI personnel department assessment, rejecting an application from Margaret Roberts in 1948
"This woman is headstrong, obstinate and dangerously self-opinionated.'
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
