Some years back, there was an American court case to try to rule the Louisiana purchase illegal because neither signatory to the contract had the appropriate authority to conduct the contract. Had it been successful, the land would have returned to France or to the descendants of the French landowners.
As it happened, the judge ruled that the statute of limitations had run out by several decades.Comment
