Film 4 tonight: Close encounters of the third kind.

I think this is one of the best films ever made. I haven’t seen it in a couple of years even though I have it on DVD (Only have a region 1 player & NTSC TV back home).
Blair, you cannot reach me now,
    No matter how you try,
    Goodbye cruel Labour,
    Your end is nigh.

Shame it was only the cinema version. I don't know why they bother with that. The special edition is the real clasic.

        It's just finished... Brill.

I might try the special edition, but since I have an old fashioned telly, it will probably be wasted.

You reckon? I always thought Richard Dreyfuss standing around looking at loads of lights was a bit stupid. The original where he just goes onto the space ship is a much better ending IMO. It maintains more of the mystery.

Now shall I tell you why Apocalypse Redux isn't as good as the original, and The Wicker Man director's cut is better in some ways, and not as good in others...

I know what you mean but the SE has better bits all the way through it terms of cutting etc. Not just the ending.

Now I think about it, I think the DVD I have is the special edition but without the silly ending. The reason was the studio only originally put up the money for the special edition on the condition that they showed inside the mothership, which Spielberg didn't want but agreed to anyway, but it got removed again for the director's cut of the Special Edition DVD. Which makes me wonder which Film 4 showed as usually they're pretty good at that sort of thing.
