Bridgend call centre staff face toilet break charge says MP - HR Grapevine

Call centre staff are being taxed for their ‘toilet visits’ an MP has revealed.

MP Madeline Moon from Bridgend said one constituent found that £50 was taken from his month’s pay for bathroom breaks.

She said that the employees were given “copious amounts of water” which allowed them to continue speaking to customers, but at the same time they were being “fined” for their toilet visits.

The TUC recently noticed that workers do not have a legal right to ‘toilet visits’ whilst at work without losing pay

Trade unions are requesting the law be changed by calling for their workers are given specific legal rights, aiming to allow their workers to be able to use the toilet without pay deductions.

If people started to put chamber pots under their desk and using them whilst on the phone I bet they would change their mind

I wonder who the call centre serves. That would be interesting to know.

How was the £50 figure arrived at? Was it a time and motion study?
