    Mobile phones for pre-teens

Any idea if any phones O/S give poor old paranoid Dad control over the phone vs:

    - what apps get downloaded (no snapchat or KiK thanks very much)
    - child friendly internet connection

basically I want to be sys admin on the thing until she gets to 16.

dream on, you won't be sys admin until she's 16.

how old is she now? if 12 or more, just give her the phone, you can't stop what ever you're imagining might happen. you have to trust her

You can do it on an iPhone but you have to jailbreak it first. There is an app on Cydia that lets you run a VNC service on the phone and manage it remotely from your Mac. Not for the faint hearted though.

Just give her a crappy android phone that can only really run one app at a time. Then there will be no need to attempt to control her. Otherwise she will just save up her own money and buy a phone.
