Stop catching speeders, police can’t cope, volunteers told - Telegraph

If the police can't cope then they should be allowed to dispense instant justice - maybe making the drivers sit through some morris dancing?

They caught 200 drivers and the Police send a snotty letter. Half an hour with mail merge and they are done.

Hardly a massive imposition. If all else fails they could get a volunteer to do the letters and a Plod or PCSO to review sign them over dougnuts.

They wonder why we think the Old Bill are incompetent.

Wouldn't an (activated) speed camera be the simplest and cheapest way of dispensing "instant justice" these days?

I thought Crapita had all this covered?

Then everyone knows where it is. People just drop their speed for a moment. Average speed cameras would be better.

I seem to remember they tried this once in Nottingham. It was so successful that it raised no money and the scheme had to be disbanded.

And it stops the locals of having their fun by putting on a yellow jacket and jumping out randomly at passing motorists with a hairdryer and giving them a heart attack.

We must have the techonology now for smart road signs which could interact with a modern car. Car enters 30 zone, car detects speed limit via transmitter on sign, car becomes limited to say 35mph until end of 30 zone. Encourage take up of technology by offering insurance discount to cars fitted with technology.

and then someone works how to control it and use it for a Crash for cash Scam.

Presumably driverless cars will have to allow for speed limits?

I like that idea - except my incentive is to combine it with GPS so that you get a free SatNav.
