A regional water company has revealed it spends £7m a year clearing toys, false teeth and disposable wipes from its sewers.

Surprised disposable nappies generally make it to the main sewer. When my kids were little the missus was flushing them down the bog and it blocked the drain on our property. Had great fun clearing that out.

PS by them I mean nappies not kids. Tried the latter but their heads wouldn't fit the bend.

Only since moving to the coast have I become aware that anything as small as a cotton bud or cotton wool pad (those make-up remover things) chucked down the loo can block the pump en route to the sewage treatment place. The pump then stops and plan B is to divert EVERYTHING into the sea until it's sorted. Incredible, really, in 2014.
