    Male Idiot Theory

    Did we do this?

Darwin Awards 'winners' are overwhelmingly male, analysis reveals | Daily Mail Online

The terrorist who unthinkingly opened his own letter bomb on its return after he posted it with insufficient stamps.
The construction worker who was demolishing a car park by tearing down its supports as workers watched from their office window, taking bets on what his plan was to remove the final support over a number of days. He didn’t have one - and was crushed by the concrete platform.
The thief attempting to purloin a steel cable from a lift shaft - and unbolted it while standing in the lift which then plummeted to the ground, killing him.
The man who stole a ride home by hitching a shopping trolley to the back of a train, only to be dragged two miles to his death before it was able to stop.

He said an honourable mention must go to the man who slipped when using a belt sander as an auto erotic device and lost a testicle.
Repairing his scrotum with a staple gun, he was able to salvage his remaining testicle thus failing to eliminate himself completely from the gene pool, so he did not qualify for an award and was eliminated from the analysis.
    Diver - is that you?

The researchers admitted the study has limitations because women may be more likely to nominate men for a Darwin Award, or the sex difference may reflect differences in alcohol use between men and women.
DM pointing out alternative interpretations of the data? Quality journalism!

        Amusing article.

Arguable that it's accurate and not much of a shock to people since it tends to be us blokes who take dumb risks and act irresponsibly, there's no doubt a genetic imperative from our hunter-gatherer past at work there too

It works in both directions, however. You get more males who occupy the lower ends of the IQ bell curve but also the higher ends. And of course, this is coupled with a higher risk appetite.
