Those words that look similar but mean different things

I just came across another pair:

inveigh - speak or write about (something) with great hostility

inveigle - persuade (someone) to do something by means of deception or flattery

Have to admit, I'd never heard of "inveigh"

I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful. [Christopher Hitchens]

Rhymes with "neigh" as in horses

It's a good word. It should be used more

          niggard and n*gger

Merely saying the former out loud garners plenty of double-takes these days.

Seriously? There is no connection other than they are almost homophones. Oops, can I even use that word now?!
