Switching Business Account from Barclays to ....??

    Hi Guys,

    Currently ..
    - With Barclays for last 2 yesrs
    - Paying £8/month fees
    - ~0% interest on savings

    Looking for ..
    - Free Banking for 1 year at least
    - Needs some saving option with better rate
    - Needs online banking
    - 1 or 2 paying in per month
    - Up to 5 paying out per month
    - Needs direct debit/scheduled salary payment option

    Options I could find..
    1. Carter Allen
    - Q. FSCS protected ..?
    - Q. Not sure they started online banking ? or just tele?
    - Looks like they offers FREE banking
    - Q. Do they offer high interest deposit accounts as well..?

    2. Yorkshire Bank
    - 18 months free banking
    - Q. Looks like they got online business banking as well?
    - Q. Do they offer high interest deposit accounts as well..?

Is they any better option that suits me..? Thanks.

    -Yes
-Both online and tele - there is a delay with payments of a 1 business day as they don't have their own payment services and use RBS. (They are not the only bank/bs who use another bank for processing payments.)
-They offer deposit accounts but as interest rates are pants they aren't high interest. You are going to have to put our money else where to get a higher interest rate.

The main criticisms I've heard about them from other people is:
    1. They don't like non-UK payments going into your account - you need to tell them the exact source of the payments and will happily ask you to close your account if they think you are a risk.
    2. They screw up on non-UK payments due to not doing their own bank processing

    The main advantages:
    1. Polite staff even though they are part of the Santander group
    2. Free banking

Why would someone go with Cater instead of Santander I don't understand.
Santander is not so exquisite as Cater regarding bullsh*t non-UK payments. And they have their own payment services. Same day payments.

With Santander you have 12 months fee-free (or 18 months if you are a 123 Customer) after that it is £7.5/month.

The current account gives you some very low interest but you can open a "saver" account or a "reward" account, the first one offering 0.45%, instant access, no penalties.
The reward is identical but 0.75% as long as you don't withdraw money, otherwise in the month you made withdrawals you get 0.10%, and you can have this account only for 12 months, after that it becomes a "saver" one at 0.45% interest.

It's easier to open an account with CA than Santander e.g. a week rather than 8.

The free banking is currently for life.

The customer service is top notch.

Plus I personally know and have heard of other small business people having issues with Santander including not being able to move money from their business account to personal account.

All the banks seem to have started to charge for business banking - I dont see an easy way to avoid it

I've used Cater Allen for past three years now with absolutely no complaints. In fact I've found them extremely helpful, more so than other banks and the Online banking is perfectly suitable if you're not looking for lots of frills.

No problems here with Santander, been with them a few years and no issues making payments to our Barclays personal account.

Just moved our personal current account to them too (123), still no issues making payments to personal account from the business.

Overall a good online banking experience with them.

I've been with Cater Allen since 2000 (when they were Robert Fleming & Co) and never had any problems with them. Their internet banking interface is a bit clunky but generally does what it is supposed to.
