      Very poor article, as it didn't make clear, or even begin to try and explain, how a gadget you press buttons on and see random characters displayed on an LED could possibly work as a useful watch (or, come to that, be much of a challenge to make).

      Perhaps is there a conventional time display, and the "enigma" characters are a separate unrelated feature?

          As far as I can see (without my glasses), all it does is encrypt stuff.

          Which is why someone should invent a watch Bombe to decrypt it.

          Though I suppose that since you've got the wheel settings, the stecker settings and all the rest of it you can use the damn thing to decrypt its own output.

          As I said, people do the strangest things.
