    Smug mode

I've been complaining for weeks to the DBAs here that it "feels like" my Oracle queries are running on 1 CPU. I asked if it was a VM could they beef it up a bit. No dice. It's a real machine with 8 cores and oodles of RAM so should be fast enough.

Today they gave in a little and ran some monitoring software while my queries ran.

Guess how many CPUs were used?

So now I have some suggestions on how to use the other cores, so I have some reading to do.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Shouldn't the question be "Guess how many Cores were used ?" ?
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.
