If Apple decided to open a bank then most of the high-street banks would be dead within 5 years.

Knock them all you want, but without them we'd all still have a nokia brick phone and a mini disc player, yes they are rarely the first to market, but they have very few misses in a catalogue of hits.

All the Android manufacturers were pushing NFC for this sort of thing a couple of years ago, but Apple point blank refused to build it into the iPhone.
