    Duvet Days

Do you ever take the odd one?

    Was sorely tempted this morning...

Sod all sleep, 2 hours commute each way. Mindnumbing sprint planning meeting all afternoon.

Determined to get to the 3 month mark before I pull one though....

Sprint planning. How comes it takes for frickin long. I've had 8 hour planning meetings for a weeks work!

Then a four hour meeting at the end of the "sprint" for retrospective, and daily standups.

What utter ***** dreampt up this torture?

Back in my permie days every Monday morning was a struggle between quilt and guilt. But in all these years of contracting - sure we all have bad days/weeks/contracts - I've always made it in. That tells me something. Though in truth my mindset is "the sooner I get through another day's billing the sooner I retire".

Yep, set a goal, like retiring in the sun before 50, and make that your focus. It really helps. Think of money lost if you don't go in, and how that goal slips further away.

Never taken a duvet day while contracting, although there has been times when WFH was less than productive, damn Lync and the ability to see if you are Idle (although first thing I do on new site is set the timeout from 5 mins to 60)

              It's called 'working from home'
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

                  Or have a cardiac arrest.

I need time out - I can't believe how long some on here claim to work without taking any time off.

If you're enjoying what you're doing then fair enough but doing a monster commute + mindnumbing work leaves me feeling totally burnt out after a couple of months.

Our sprint planning is scheduled to take ninety minutes, though it often takes fewer. You're all doing it wrong
