    Telephone scam of the day

WFH today, so when the landline rings I just ignore it and let it go to the answer machine, which then promptly ends the call.

But just now instead of ringing off, a recording of the BT 1571 answering service was played, going through the spiel and asking "press 1 to repeat, press 2 to..". And it looped continuously until I answered the phone and promptly ended the call (who 'hangs up' these days?).

I'll bet some premium rate number is coining it at the moment...

(PS. No calls on the BT answering machine btw - I don't have it...)

I have a simpler solution, I don't have a landline. In that way I don't get junk calls all hours of the day and night and I don't directly or indirectly line the pockets of Mahindra (sorry I mean British) Telecom to the tune of about £12/month for feck all.

Some people can't get the interweb without a landline.

My daughter is one. She soon realised that she didn't actually need a phone plugged in to it.

1 gb/s download and upload speeds available. Bit slow for me, in the US you can get 100 gb/s broadband for $400 per month.

Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Good for Netflix. You could watch all of Breaking Bad in 1 second.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I get spam calls to my mobile all the time, very annoying. They say things like 'have you been injured in a motoring accident recently?' and 'how about this cracking permie job in rural wiltshire?'

I'd get a landline when I got older or had kids cos if there was an emergency I'd be faffing around trying to find my mobile down the side of the sofa.
