    Anyone ever bought a cask?

I'm quite a whisky fan and have a little interest in buying a new-filled cask from a distillery as a combination of hobby and investment with a little money from an upcoming inheritance.

Anyone else ever done this or looked into the idea?

Buy in bulk. Use in bulk.

Bought a casket if that's any use. Fluffy's ashes are in it on the mantelpiece.

The usual caveats about holding physical assets apply - it can be stolen, destroyed by weather or dry up

I think the most normal set up is the distillery holds it in their own premises along-side their own casks, and basically look after it using their expertise. One distillery I looked at, the price included 10 years' storage and insurance.

It can however simply not be a very good barrel and can dry up faster than expected; every barrel is unique.
