The perils of earning a £100,000 salary - BBC News

it;'s a bit of a bummer to try and claim to be a socialist on what is probably about the equivalent of what your average contractor earns. £100k puts you into the top 2% of highest earners in the country. This does not exactly elevate you onto the moral high ground when complaining about other people being rich. in fact it sets you up as a potential object of envy and hatred to 98% of the population.

it is not exactly a fortune either as you can only choose between paying a relatively high mortgage or send one child to private school - tough choice eh? I know rich socialists like to show off socialist values to avoid attracting the attention of other envious socialists - a trick that Russel Brand Charlotte Church and the rest of the ilk of wealthy luvvie socialists try to con us with. The difference being they earn so much that a tax hike will make no discernable difference to their wealth. They also have access to all sorts of International/offshore tax accounting scams anyway. Tax hikes on £100k salaries are the easy targets.

I am afraid however that those of us who are proud of our Tory values can see as can most others what pathetic little cowardly hypocrites you all are- just like this one Tony Benn left £5m to his children in his will and not to good causes | Daily Mail Online But there again benn could afford to be a socialist.

Wealth in the UK is all about property.

There are plenty of low earners (low rate tax payers) who by pure circumstance of age live in houses those who now earn 4x as much cannot afford.

These little old lady's in mansions getting heating allowances whilst claiming poverty.

Factor housing in, then I'm interested.

I do not know and nor do you. I doubt the figures are going to change the fact that you are a rich hypocrite

They're right. Earning a 100k or more is a curse.

100k is only around 5k per month take home. I couldn't live on that.

You lose your personal allowance over £100k, get you shafted pretty good - first under Brown, then under Osborne, now still under Osborne.

In global terms, I accept I am rich?

But why does that make me a hypocrite?

                Money hasn't changed my politics.

It hasn't changed my views on inequality.

My views on wealthy boomers who need to contribute more to the problems this country faces.

You can so great good with money.

Hike up taxes, and help the poor and tax the rich.

I will happily pay more, but not to prop up house prices or fund heating allowances for expat boomers retiring in Spain.

Nobody in that article claimed to be a socialist from what I skim-read.

I am not sure where you get the idea that someone who endorses socialism shouldn't be wealthy though in the first place. You set down these axioms and build an argument on a faulty foundation. I assume this is some attack on Corbyn in which case you are further confusing socialism with merely being a bit left wing - or are you making a general point?

Shush. DA has decided what the conclusion is and now he's darn well going to make the facts fit it
