GoldenEye international - nice little scam going!

Don't even bother downloading torrents. Tried it years ago but in the end decided I'd rather not watch a film with someones head bobbing up in front of the screen.

Well, anyway, letter from Sky broadband. Apparently, a company called GoldenEye have got a court order and have harvested IP addresses and forced Sky to give up details. Like IP addresses can't be spoofed so thats an accurate method of determining who it is?

Fully expect a letter now demanding I pay £1000 in damages or something. If you look at their website, it seems they've made quite a business out of this - nice little earner indeed. In fact, looks like they 're doing better out of this then they ever thought. Big of digging and it seems they do porn films.

Scandalous. Can imagine letters falling on the mat all over the country with blokes thinking OMFG, lets pay this before the Mrs sees it. Don;t tell me GoldenEye don't know this.
You know what its like with private parking invoices - some people just crap themselves and pay it.

Absolutely disgraceful. Can't wait to see what I'm supposed to have downloaded though. Perhaps I should ask for a copy. Big and Bouncy 25 - what you reckon?

Its just plain wrong though because there are people out there who will crap themselves and pay it and are probably totally innocent as well. They just crap themselves because they don't want to get into trouble and/or get grief of partner because they're accused of downloading porn.

Its got me well wound up to be honest....

If you have a partner like that you probably deserve it

Anyone getting a letter should read this: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/co...-infringement/

Maybe. My Mrs would probably just laugh but there are people out there who would have serious relationship consequences if such letter landed on their mat Im sure.

"Listen to this one then; you open a company called the Arse Tickler's Faggot Fan Club. You take an advert in the back page of some gay mag, advertising the latest in arse-intruding dildos, sell it a bit with, er... I dunno, "does what no other dildo can do until now", latest and greatest in sexual technology. Guaranteed results or money back, all that bollocks. These dills cost twenty-five each; a snip for all the pleasure they are going to give the recipients. They send a cheque to the company name, nothing offensive, er, Bobbie's Bits or something, for twenty-five. You put these in the bank for two weeks and let them clear. Now this is the clever bit. Then you send back the cheques for twenty-five pounds from the real company name, Arse Tickler's Faggot Fan Club, saying sorry, we couldn't get the supply from America, they have sold out. Now you see how many of the people cash those cheques; not a single soul, because who wants his bank manager to know he tickles arses when he is not paying in cheques!"

The idea in this one, probably, is that people prefer to settle rather than go to court defending from that firm...

                  I panicked

                  Hey Guys,

My mum received the same letter you're talking about from Sky. Looking for some advice.

Must admit when we first opened it, we were worried... Then I googled 'Golden Eye International'.

The website looks like a year 6 ICT project.

Am I safe? It's crazy because my Mum is 100% innocent and yet Sky have released her data to this random company who now as a result know where we live. I know that Sky were ordered by the courts to hand over the details but surely that is wrong?

As someone mentioned, IP's can be duplicated, hacked or we could even have a porn addict who pulls up to our house and accesses our internet at 4am.

Am I right in thinking an IP doesn't identify the device?

Lots of questions sorry - new to the forum

                  Thanks! fellow copyright infringers.
