    UK energy future

UK coal plants must close by 2025, Amber Rudd to announce - Telegraph

UK coal plants must close by 2025, Amber Rudd announces

Energy secretary says it is imperative that Britain builds new gas-fired power plants to replace polluting coal plants

So we get to rely more on imported gas?

The UK should be building more nuclear plants(and without help of French or Chinese) before going anywhere.

Dare I ask what effect this will have on AGW?

Get on with fracking and we'd have oodles of gas.

    Don't we import coal?
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Yes, that was always the bone of contention at the longannet coal plant on the Forth. It literally sits a the mine head and there are a couple of other pit heads within 5 miles of it, all connected in underground tunnels...
But its still cheaper to import the coal from Poland to run it...

Yes, coal is imported, gas is imported. Skills and workers to build nuclear power plants are imported and the money to build it is borrowed and imported. Windmills are imported. Solar panels are imported.

At least our energy policy is consistent. Import it and pay top whack.

Isn't this the woman who doesn't quite know what her department is doing and got roasted for it a couple of weeks ago?
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

            Yes.

But we still have lots in the UK. Just in case.

Given the scale of new coal fired stations being built in China and Japan this idiotic UK policy will do nothing for global CO2 emissions whatever.

The fact that you use the correct name CO2 , as opposed to the ridiculous 'carbon' means that any greenies reading will not understand your point.
They have long since moved past global warming and CO2, long since tried to prove a connection, they now want to ban coal because 'they feel, in their heart, it's the right thing to do'

"Everyone else is doing it" is not a great argument outside primary school.

It will be the same as increasing the lifespan of existing Magnox reactors, just keep extending deadlines until the reality catches up with whatever fook witted announcement the politicians make
