    Space!!

Can't find the space thread but finally a British man is going into space. He is following in a British woman's steps but that's not surprising....

    Blast of 11am GMT

WTF ?! There was some British porn from the nineties which was star trek themed. Wasn't it shot in space?

Must be a slow news day as this was all they could find to talk about on BBC Breakfast this morning. First "official" UK astronaut apparently. Shows how crap we really are at science and technology.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Shows how little money our government puts in it.

Helen Sharman was sent to space through a privately funded project, while all the previous guys had to change nationality.

BBC News says "At 11:03 GMT (17:03 local time), notwithstanding some unforeseen obstacle, the Soyuz launcher's five thruster units will ignite, blasting the astronauts into orbit for the six-hour journey to the ISS."

I hope not; "notwithstanding" means "in spite of", so that implies that even if an obstacle arises, they're just going to blast them off anyway

and at 11:02am when someone says they'll be lifting off "momentarily", let's hope it's the American meaning and not the British!

Aye she was quite a torch bearer for the UK space program
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think
