    Typical

TV has just gone kapput before Christmas.

So, what practical use is Ultra HD/4K? Any TV channels? Blu Ray? Or is it a bit pointless and risk of being a dead end?

Should I get a smart TV? Don't like the thought of having a TV smarter than me....

    What would Suity do?

Get a projector mate, that's what I did. Lovely.

Not keen on projectors. Don't know why, never been impressed.

As senior BA, Suity would interview the Smart TV for the job, then get fired by it within a month because he no longer fitted in, then complain that it was incompetent anyway and that he was better off out.

Not sure if you looked at Sky's recent announcement, but they have a UHD STB coming out next year (Sky Q - Overview - Your wireless home entertainment system). I'm sure to promote that they'll have few UHD channels especially sports & movies. Not sure about regular content though. Both Netflix & Amazon have some UHD content as well

If you want to future proof it for a few years (until UUHD or something silly comes along), probably worth stumping for UHD

Looking through this, it seems to me, being an early 4K TV adopter is not without risks and with prices and technology changing and improving, I'm not being sold on buying one now.

If Bill Gates says 4K out to be enough for everyone, wait for more pixels at least more than 64k
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

                Do I need 3D?

Any Ultra HD 4K 3D porn yet?

Have you seen a proper projector though? The ones you find in meeting rooms at work are complete wank. Get a decent 800 quid LCD like an epson tw-3200 and you'll find it's remarkable.

I think the latest higher end ones will be even better (I had to get a cheap one cos 'gaming mode' wasn't a thing until recently, the more expensive ones had too much latency for gaming due to fancy postprocessing).
