    Thank god for capitalism

The petty envy and desire to control others for its own sake whether by exploiting the poor/victims or climate change - one thing is for sure capitalism (which is essentially the freedom of an individual to trade, employ or work for another) is under constant threat. (I have always wondered why "freedom fighters or freedom movements are always marxists or similar)

I sometimes wonder if socialists, climate change zealots ever think through what they are doing. What for example would someone like this be doing with his life if not building businesses and making squillions? Do they really think people like this would live quietly in their tower block and go out every day to work on the production line at the Trabant factory?

Horsetulip, Capitalism is about owning the means of production. Economics 101.

One is not exclusive to the other

Agreed, but your "definition" was the outcome, not the definition of capitalism.

Capitalism is not about owning the means of production any more than the abolition of the slave trade was about not having to wear chains.

The word capitalism only exists because people have silly ideas about controlling what peaceful people can and can't do - including owning their own means of production. I.e. it's about freedom.

There's a big difference between socialism and communism. Only one restricts the ownership of means of production. And the term Capitalism is used to distinguish from both.

"Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and the creation of goods and services for profit."

It's not about utopia. They know rich capitalists make their lives substantially (as in materially and with regard to opportunity) better. But they would sacrifice all of that in the name of equality. Even if that means equal squalor.

No, it exists because the The Hollandische Mercurius used the word capitalists in 1633 and 1654 to refer to owners of capital.

                  Surely some mistake!

The title should be "Thank God For Capitalism"

...The belief that all words in a title have a capital letter at the start of them.
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

We're talking about capitalism, not capitalist. You're only around 200 years out.
