To give equal opportunity to the mad Christians, I'm pretty sure there are devout people in the Philippines who like to get actual nails driven through their hands into crosses and walk around for awhile so they can be just like Jesus.

I think the closest Ultra Orthodox Jews get is waving chickens in the air before they're slaughtered around Yom Kippur. Self-mutilation is kind of frowned upon.
