Did somebody mention Finland ? Ah music to my ears !

Now test your own knowledge of Finland by answering the following questions, true or false ..winner gets a crackerjack pencil !

The Finland national team has never qualified to a final round of a major international tournament

A form of rhyming sleigh song called rekilaulu became popular in the 17th century

The Parliament of Finland celebrates its centenary in 2006

A hundred years ago Finland was an autonomous part of the Russian Empire.

Lapps, constitute 2% of the population of Finland.

            Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
            Pony trekking or camping,
            Or just watching TV.
            Finland, Finland, Finland.
            It's the country for me.

            You're so near to Russia,
            So far from Japan,
Quite a long way from Cairo,
            Lots of miles from Vietnam.

            Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I want to be,
            Eating breakfast or dinner,
Or snack lunch in the hall.
            Finland, Finland, Finland.
            Finland has it all.

            You're so sadly neglected
            And often ignored,
            A poor second to Belgium,
            When going abroad.

            Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
            Your mountains so lofty,
            Your treetops so tall.
            Finland, Finland, Finland.
            Finland has it all.

            Finland, Finland, Finland,
The country where I quite want to be,
            Your mountains so lofty,
            Your treetops so tall.
            Finland, Finland, Finland.
            Finland has it all.

in the immortal words of Divine Comedy....

I would like to live in Sweden
              When my work is done
Where the snow lies crisp and even
              'Neath the midnight sun
Safe and clean and green and modern
              Bright and breezy—free and easy
              Sweden—Sweden—Sweden—In Sweden

              Hhm.. He's got a point, hasn't he?

No. The midnight sun occurs in midsummer, when it tends not to snow.

Always had a soft spot for the Finns after reading about the Finno-Russkie war in the late 30s. Although vastly outnumbered, the Finns fought brilliantly and gave the Bear a bloody nose.
                  Hard Brexit now!

Yes the Finns did fight well.

However did you know that ...

The United Kingdom declared war on Finland on December 6, 1941, but did not participate actively. Nazi Germany took part by providing critical material support and military cooperation to the Finnish side. The war was formally concluded by the Paris peace treaty of 1947.

December the 6th being Finnish Independence Day.

But you knew that already .
