    Crossrail 2

"Ministers should prioritise developingthe £33bn Crossrail 2 line in London in order to prevent the capital “grinding to a halt”, according to the independent body advising the government on Britain’s long-term infrastructure projects.

Funding should be released immediately to enable work on the rail link – which would run from north to south across the capital – to start as soon as the first Crossrail route is completed in 2019, the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) said.

London should pay at least half of the expected £33bn bill for Crossrail 2, but the development of the north-south rail line should be a priority with benefits for the entire nation, according to Andrew Adonis, the NIC chair."

So, Crossrail 1 - no problems with funding, now Crossrail 2 - let's put another 33 bln and nobody says a word against, but when it comes to HS2 then suddenly they are all up in arms

Government policy for rail in the regions is a bit tulip.

They want to make it easier for people in Manchester to get to Leeds for work, and for the people of Leeds to get to Manchester for work, but absolutely nothing to improve rail travel for the people of Manchester wanting to work in Manchester.

As long as the regions in the rest of the country are happy to personally pay for half of it they can have it.

In London lots of the people who are paying for crossrail don't actually live in London they live in the rest of the SE and commute into London.

It's high time for London to declare independence - anything inside M25 counts...

It will require trains to move one at a time and crash a lot...

Now now, we all know trains are wasted on Northerners. They only make them dirty with soot and whippet tulip, and the lines might go through the grouse moors and spoil the season.

That's why we're more than happy with 40 year old rolling stock, an upgrade is considered refurbishing redundant tube stock and where there are new shiny trains they can be sent down south.

You should be grateful. HS2 will only suck the life out of the North.

HS2 should link Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.

Bonus thought, just think how much more the tube drivers will be able to strike for when they have to learn a new route
