Don't blame migrants for taking your job

Tony Blair has told unemployed British workers "not to blame migrants for having taken your job" claiming they should get a better education to "allow them to operate in the modern world" instead.
So, in other words, if you're a skilled tradesman it's tough sh!t that you're getting undercut by people from Eastern Europe who are willing to do the work at a substantially lower rate.

A lot of these poor sods were Ejukated under Bliar.

Must be nice to sit on some Oligarch's super yacht and tell people to get a better education, whilst at the same time singing the praises of complete open door immigration policy.

Still, everyone will vote Brexin followed by LibLabCon, so long will it continue.

I am glad I am a niche specialist, but feel very sorry for your average joe.

Our experience of trying to find a Builder to remove a structural wall.

Brits, turned up late, didn't quote, priced themselves out of the job (£5k labour to do 1.6*2m en suite is a bit much), dismissive, failed to remember details. Booked until July.

Eastern Europeans - Turned up on time, keen pricing (£2K for en suite), Polite, quote with us in 24 hours. Booked until July.

so the tradesmen are doing OK, its the employees that are being shafted with low wages and job security.

Complete bollox on 2 counts, at least in the South East.

            1. If you are a skilled tradesman, you can work as many hours as you want at high rates due to the shortage.
If you need building work done, there is a long wait as there's so much on. Can't talk about the North but certainly true in the SE. Currently waiting 3 months to refurb a BTL.

            2. The Poles have equalised their rates and are not cheap anymore - the good ones at least.

What you do have are some of the poorly skilled bottom feeders (both native and immigrant) charging low rates as they can't find work.

And much as I despise that complete coont Blair , he does have a point in that the country is not going to be world class if people have mediocre skills.
            Hard Brexit now!

Nothing to stop you starting your own company. Just like most of us.

I'm fine, I earn plenty. I have a nice life, stonking pension , work from home, very little stress. I may have mentioned that a few times before. I could earn more contracting but I see my little one for hours each day. longest I have ever been away from her is 2 nights.

The wife earns a fair amount too. So unlike you, its not self interest.

My concern is with the poor sods I know earning £350 a week with a family. Yes they should all become brain surgeons but we need someone to drive Buses, lorries etc. There are quite a few decent people being screwed by immigration.

It is not complete bollocks. It is partly bollocks. the subtle effect of a skills market that draws in large numbers of workers from abroad is to relieve pressure on pay rates. They may not fall but they will not rise as quickly as they might have done. It is called basic laws of supply and demand I don't know whether you have ever studied this complex part of economics.
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone
