    IT contracting: worst-case scenarios

    Hullo,

I've recently started IT contracting with a limited co. in the UK. So far things are OK but there's been enough nonsense and red tape that I need to know the worst that can happen.

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anybody who got so disgusted with the situation that they actually chose to leave and contract in another country. What happened? Were you actually audited/persecuted under IR35? Did you lose lots of money to a crooked accountant? Did you find the corporate system was fixed in some way against you?

Note: I'm asking about actual scenarios that have happened to people, not vague dark things that you're "supposed to be afraid of". Generalized fear is no help at all.

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

Stay away from the windows, and don't run towards sounds of screaming.

I learnt that from Progressive, not horror movies.

Yes, I got fed up with the UK and moved to Denmark. First off I got a contract in Denmark, and whilst here discovered that in my situation the total tax take was quite a bit lower, so stayed.

Get plenty of work back in the UK, do it remote and pay the tax in Denmark. Laughing mate.

          No brainer really.
