Google patent: Glue would stick pedestrian to self-driving car after collision - San Jose Mercury News

MOUNTAIN VIEW -- In a world with self-driving cars, Google envisions the inevitable: accidents involving pedestrians.

But the firm is exploring an unusual solution. Think flypaper.

The company received a patent Tuesday describing a way to reduce pedestrian injuries in an accident with a robotic vehicle. The impact of the crash, Google suggests, would expose a coating that glues the person to the front of the car.

I suppose he acts as an immovable object and the car comes to a stop?

That's a classic 'happy path' scenario. Just wait till the car swerves and the pedestrian ends up glued by their legs to the wing. Or what about when a deer runs out - imagine having a half dead petrified animal glued on your bonnet

The great thing is is that hitting pedestrians need no longer make you late for work, as you can just keep going with them safely glued to your bonnet. Saves on tyres and brake wear too.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

                We've already discussed MF. HTHBIDI

Anyway, what about when the car hits a pedestrian then ploughs into a shop window - pedestrian prevents too much damage to googlecar? That's like saying Ricky Hatton used to be good at blocking punches with his face.

At least they haven't patented bull bars. The amount of bull they'd catch driving through here would throw the Earth off axis.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.
