    This isn't quite right ...

So a friend of mine who happens to be of German origin ,settled here for more than 20 years, was denied the right to vote in the referendum. Correctly IMO.
But as he happens to be a member of the Tory party, he will get to choose the unelected leader who will govern us for the next 4 crucial years. A period of time in which that leader, acting on behalf of a party which has made a U turn on fiscal probity, the basis of which many voted for them, could wreck the country permanently.

Quite agree. Any new PM should be elected by MPs who have themselves been elected by voters.

What about the Leader of the Opposition?

Can anyone name any democratic countries where foreigners cannot join political parties and have a say in their running, deciding policies etc.?

What opposition are you referring to? Can't see any.

A non UK national shouldn't be allowed to vote for the leader of a UK party. Agreed. Although we vote for parties, not presidents so who leads is not relevant.

Should they be allowed to vote on who should be the MP selected by their local party?

The biggest disgrace is to let those who live outside the UK vote in official elections or referendums.
