EU appoints former French minister who blames Britain for losing his job to lead Bre

"The European Commission has shown it is prepared to play "hardball" by appointing a former French minister who reportedly holds a grudge against Britain as head of its Brexit negotiations.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the European Commissioner has announced the appointment of Michel Barnier, an arch-federalist, as Brussels' chief negotiator for the UK's exit talks with the EU.

Diplomats have suggested that Mr Barnier still resents Britain after losing his job after the French government lost a referendum on the European Constitution.

France held a referendum on the constitution after Tony Blair, the then Labour prime minister, promised one in Britain. In the event, the referendum in Britain never took place.

Speaking after the referendum vote, Mr Barnier said that he shouldn't be "prisoner to the British question" during Brexit negotiations.

He is also renowned as a defender of French protectionism and is hostile to the “Anglo-Saxon” free market model of capitalism."

Clearly EU did not find it funny when Boris the Clown became the Foreign Office Minister...

Don't you worry - UK will make up for loss of EU markets by selling tuliploads to India, even more people live there than in EU, no biggie loss...

So, am I correct in thinking that we said we were going to have a referendum but didn't have one but the french did and it went against this guy who lost his job because his fellow countrymen didn't agree with him and now he hates us and as a result Juncker has appointed him because he hates us and supports the socialist federalist model that we have just voted against but which Juncker believes in but won't allow other countries to vote on in case he loses in the same way that Cameron did thus causing Juncker to regatd him as stupid for having given us the vote in the first place because the last thing the EU wants is democracy in case it goes against them and this bloke hates capitalism too?

The lot of them can feck right off.

"“Sir Mervyn King is not known as a man given to shouting. But during a meeting this summer in the genteel surroundings of London’s Threadneedle Street, the Bank of England governor let fly. The visitor sitting across from him was threatening to rein in the governor’s new powers to set capital rules for Britain’s banks. Sir Mervyn was having none of it. As his voice rose, his interpreter grew increasingly startled – particularly as the Frenchman refused to back down. An hour later, Sir Mervyn’s hands were still shaking when he sat down for lunch with George Osborne, the chancellor of the exchequer.”"

So why did May appoint Boris to any other post than bringing tea to the negotiations?

You still seem to think of the EU as the purveyor of power and you talk as if we are somehow subservient to these people. This is not yet the Soviet Union. We can already read the signs of the bully boy totalitarianism of the EU which thanks to Brexit will have much of its power stripped from it. If you really think the EU can afford to play hardball with the UK then you are quite deluded.
