Aww thats's nice : christmas presents...

... mark another nail in the balance of payments defecit...

The worlds largest container ship eventually stops off at El Dorado to dump 13,000 containers of christmas toys etc from China (that used to be made in this country), and it's marked as a cause for celebration .. that the UK can offer one of the few docks that supports the enormous ships bringing in the goods we used to produce from thousands of miles away...hooray.

"This is a great day for Britain. The FACT that we are one of the few European countries who has a single port available to allow enormous foreign built and registered ships to import goods, that further erode our balance of payments deficit, is a cause of celebration. Forget that we were, in my own lifetime, the premier trading and shipbuilding nation. Sorted. Next."

"The environmental costs of long-distance trade need to be properly taken into account," said Dr Caroline Lucas, Green Party MEP for South East England.

"We must manage international trade in a way which is socially and environmentally sustainable, working towards global agreement on a raft of measures such as taxation on fuel and import tariffs designed to support home-grown businesses.

"This will help offset the environmental damage caused by ships like the Emma Maersk plying international waters filled with MP3 players and plastic toys."
Erm....do they know how ridicously economic sea trade is? They dont use a lot of fuel oil and thats the reasons so much comes by sea!

"If we are to are to protect the environment, the only solution is to stop producing goods in the UK and import them from China instead. That way, the UK will meet it's specified carbon emissions targets as planned. Sorted. Next."

These green types have never noticed how little force it takes to move a rubber duck in the bath because they've never had a bath.
