What you can find out about a director on Companies House

Just got this in my inbox: The new Companies House website puts company directors at increased risk of spear phishing | Computing

It's quite alarming that it took seconds to find my full name, address, month and year of birth and signature. Add in those of my wife and I'm surprised my identity isn't being used by hoards of ne'er-do-wells across the world.

If you could just pm me your wife's maiden name as well, that would be great

    TIA

Someone once kindly tried to get a £250K loan off the back of my ltd. The bank in questions spotted it and sent me a letter to ltd's registered address warning me. It wasn't even a bank I had ever had previous dealings with.

Wow, it only takes a few of those to sneak through and you could be retiring to Panama in next to no time. I sense a plan B.

I understand the need for directors to be subject to scrutiny, but surely they could make it a little harder for people to get all that data?

Register your company at your accountant so your address won't be on there. Apart from that nothing else you can do.

The light dawns on the uninitiated from time to time so plenty of threads about it here.

            residential addresses shouldn't be shown

            https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...y_guidance.pdf

The vast majority of information registered with us is available on the public register.
Some information (for example, residential addresses and full dates of birth) aren’t
part of the public register, but are shared with specified public authorities and credit
            reference agencies (CRAs).
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Are they both Limp 'n' Tubby, or they both in possession of a singular specialist skill?

This. Except the changes are visible so if it's ever been registered at your home address you're screwed.

I fixed this by registering with my accountant and then moving house.....
Have you tried switching it off and back on again??

Bit drastic but I admire your resolve!
