Nico Rosberg retires: World champion quits Formula 1 - BBC Sport

Well I suppose you may as well quit while you are at the top.

Another year with Lewis Hamilton too much to bear.

BTW if you're listening Mercedes, I am available in 2017.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

You'll need a change of name. Vectra doesn't really cut it in F1...

Sounds like one of the lesser known F1 teams that always comes last

Wow, surely nobody saw that coming? I haven't read the BBC stories yet (thanks for sharing and the amusing title Shaun) but did Mercedes have the slightest clue?

Sign Alonso and get Button to stay.

The only interesting thing in F1 for the last three years have been Nico and Hamilton. I think Button, Bottas as and Massa are out of contract.

There's a young Dutch kid who's been under the radar so far but might be big in 2017 Blue.

Mercedes have the ability to get ANY driver right now... Vettel? Max? Alonso?

Would give the fans a chance to see the top two of the last decade fighting it out

If they want someone more fun, Ricciardo (sp?) would be great.

None of those are going to happen without a very large exchange of cash.

I imagine they'll either buy Bottas out of engine customer Williams, or buy Perez out of engine customer Force India.
