    Christmas Geese

Parody thread of a parody thread (or should that be parroty thread) AND a real question...

We had goose with friends before but never bought one. My understanding is it's a bit of a lottery; you have to book one with a local butcher and get whichever one they allocate you?

Is that right and have we missed the boat by months if we wanted one or is there still time?

You still should have time to order one, but don't hang about. Go to a very good butcher, and don't skimp on the cost (expect to pay about 20-30% more than you would have to pay for a turkey of equivalent weight, as geese can't really be intensively reared.) You could try Waitrose, they do have a limited supply (depending on location), but you need to get in quick. Goose is also a bit trickier to cook, but bloody lovely if you get it right.
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

I've cooked frozen geese many times - last year from Lidl - using this recipe. Very very juicy and tasty.

I normally thaw them before cooking.
